Our hearts and our prayers go out to the families of the two pilots aboard Space Ship 2 today. This is an unbelievably painful day for the families, as well as for all of the “Scaled” family. Many of my friends who work at Scaled Composites watched from the ground as the engine exploded.
The cause of the crash has not yet been absolutely determined, and the NTSB will take its time to investigate.
Mojave is not far from our home and office in Tehachapi, and we pass through there often. My son Dallas and I watched Space Ship One complete its second test flight, which was an awesome event. A proud day for Scaled and its workers. This is a test flight neighborhood. Edwards AFB is just up the street from Mojave’s Space Port One and Airport. And many of these talented and skilled people who work at the Edward’s test flight projects, or the Mojave test flight projects live and worship here in Tehachapi or Bear Valley Springs or Stallion Springs.
But today is the worse that could happen.
It was one of the worst days in my life when I got the call that my dear friend Judson Brohmer had been killed in a crash out of Edwards AFB. That event changed us all – just as this event will change many others.
May God give you all grace and comfort as you deal with this pain and loss.
We are so sorry.
